Praying for Dave

In December, Dave was diagnosed with amyloidosis. This is a rare disease which can quickly cause organ damage. In Dave's case, his heart, spleen and GI tract have sustained considerable damage in the short time since his diagnosis.

Dave and his wife Becky have two sons and three grandchildren. They have been a part of our lives since my sister and I knew their boys in high school. We had not had contact with them for years when my sister opened an email one day and discovered Dave was very ill and awaiting a heart transplant at a local hospital.

Dave has been on the recipient list for some time and was to receive a heart last week. At the last minute, the donor heart crashed and the transplant cancelled. Since then, he has undergone abdominal surgery to have a portion of his large intestine removed after it was discovered he had even further damage to his intestines. He will not be reinstated to the recipient list for approximately 2-4 weeks and his doctors are having to work hard to convince the transplant board that Dave is still a good candidate. In the meantime, his heart is weak and healing delayed due to the internal damage he's already sustained.

Please say a prayer for Dave, Becky and their family today. I'll update when I know more.

Thank you all. It's been such a blessing finding bloggy friends! :)
